Re: ID Bracelet / Necklace

It takes about 9 seconds for an ICD to charge to fire. I'm thinking it would have already fired by the time someone with an AED was prepared to use it. They would know you have a device. The ICD would continue to fire as long as you're in VF. If you have an actual cardiac death with no electrical ac...

Re: Not one thing but another

I'm so sorry to hear that so many of our members are struggling with significant health events this month. I know you're all a strong bunch, but I wish that resolve wasn't being tested.

Best wishes to everyone. or
God bless us every one.

Re: Pharmacy and Xarelto

I don't take Xarelto, but do agree with your rationale, Leedur. I think I would choose the bleeding, too.

Did you try a different med before that didn't work for you? There has always been risk with blood thinners, but this one seems to be getting a lot of attention.

Re: Medicare Open Enrollment

I won't be on Medicare for a few more years. Could someone give me the condensed version of why supplemental plans can be preferable to advantage? If you start on advantage, can you ever move to supplemental plans?

Re: Beginning an exercise program after getting an ICD

I agree with ROBO. Any heart prone to frequent VT and especially VF needs an ICD if the patient desires to remain alive. Otherwise, carry on until its over. As far as exercise, I suggest cardiac rehab. You are continuously monitored and the facility is staffed with medical personnel. It is helpful t...

Re: Pacing at the same time

Great suggestion Margaret. I have St. Jude. Mine has always been set to read between 2-4 am. mykidsmom --- which pacing did you have turned of? If it was the ATP, perhaps you are feeling the pacemaker function. I rarely feel the ATP but am very sensitive to the pacemaker and I don't like it. I hope ...

Re: Well, I have to delurk sometime.

Hi and Welcome! You'll find a lot of experience here and a perspective that docs can't share unless they have a device. I get some irritation and pain from device to shoulder after some activity.....not so painful that my arm movement was restricted though. For me, it seems to originate in the area ...

Re: Beta Blockers - exactly how do they help prevent arrhythmia

I'm not medically technical, but it is my understanding that adrenalin plays a role in the increasing heart rate during exercise, and that beta blockers block the absorption of adrenalin in the heart, and without the adrenalin, the heart rate is limited. VT is generally considered heart rates over 1...

Re: Feel like ICD digging into shoulder

It should get better. A pocket is made for the ICD to rest in and it can take some time for the device to settle in. One day, it won't be your first thought on waking and your last thought before sleep.
Best Wishes to you.

Re: Question

Did your device nurse tell you the percent you are brady paced? My left vent is paced near 100% by my CRT, but I don't feel it except sometimes for ATP. But I can feel the brady pacing and I don't like it. I was brady pacing over 25% with my threshold set at 60. My doc decreased the threshold to 50 ...

Re: Ischemic Cardiomyopathy and CRT-D

The helmeted one is wise indeed. My doc told me that about 30% will improve, 30% will see no benefit, and about 30% will decline and that there are no predictors. My heart was damaged by a virus that caused a nasty lung infection that spread to my heart. Initially, I saw an improvement. I felt bette...
