Re: Anybody else awake for their entire ICD implantation?

Yes, talked to doctors until they said going to put me out to test. Never experienced pain or other feeling related to the surgery.

Re: am I dead yet? ...

Robo.....sorry you are having to suffer and your family too. Lost my 89 year old Mom 11 months ago to CHF. She was hospitalized for a few days each of the last 6 months of life. Have you ruled this out....going in for some treatment? They were able to remove significant more fluid than home medicati...

Re: when and why did you get your ICD??

I seem to have skipped the "Intro" step when I joined up here in 2015. So, I can't refer you to that. In summary, after 3 episodes of near faint one of which was like I closed my eyes for a second while driving....but didn't, I decided to check in with my Cardiologist who had treated me for the prev...

Re: am I dead yet? ...

I have had occasional bouts of depression over the years. Not feeling good or lower than usual energy is depressing. Being depressed can make you feel worse. Looking at the future the older we get just means our life here will end some day. So in the meantime if I can find something of interest to d...

Re: Why Reduced Activity on Forum

MKM.....about people getting a more advanced notice as to the need for an ICD and having time to research. I think I was told on a Tuesday and they wanted to implant 3 days later. I put off until Monday....6 days later. They stressed the immediate need as I had 3 recent episodes of near fainting. So...

Re: Why Reduced Activity on Forum

Robo: Before responding, I had to "not sign in" to try and verify what I thought I remembered before joining 4 years ago. Quickly I was able to go back to 2010 and enter a topic in search...instant access to topic comments. Of course info might be somewhat outdated due to technology advancements. I ...

Re: am I dead yet? ...

Robo.....guess it's what stage of deterioration we are in. Lost both parents to CHF and it wasn't a pleasant sight. Mom last August at age 89. Know I will never make it anywhere near that age but I am hoping for 75 assuming life is tolerable. Believe I will tend to make light of it as you do...mainl...

Re: Why Reduced Activity on Forum

I "think" I can remember reading posts on numerous subjects here before actually becoming a member. Lots of questions answered without joining. After a while I decided to jump right in. What pushed me over the edge was my first shock was while driving.....had to see if this was common. It's possible...

Re: whadda yah think?

Having both parents die from CHF (Dad age 60 and Mom 89) and in my 5th year after diagnosis, I would possibly expect the same ending. Unless an accident or some other illness takes me out. With the ICD it's not likely to be Cardiac Arrest. Would assume someone that had the defibrillator feature shut...

Re: Athletic activities and ICDs

I am very active working and gym time.....no problems. Think you should avoid overhead pulling motions or at least use very light resistance. Certainly no issues with cycling. As for surfing, I have never tried it. Since the Jaws movie came out, I have yet to set foot in an ocean. The only thing tha...

Re: Annual Post

Congratulations on the 35 years. Mine will be 30 two days from now. Cardiac adventures also started 21 years ago with bypass surgery. Both parents died of CHF....Dad at age 60 and Mom 89. Genetics is the greatest factor for heart disease according to my cardiologist. I anticipate lasting to 75. Also...

Sorry to hear of Chrissie's passing. Know she was the last to give up the fight. Knowing death was coming, it's still hard on the family. Her words of knowledge and wisdom will always be remembered.

Re: Some sad news for some

Drink one for me. In 3 weeks I will be 30 years without. Long ago I came to the conclusion that one should live clean in the younger years and save the drinking for later life. I sure could use some liquid pain relief now with all the bodily aches.
