Re: ICD- defibrillator and pacemaker

Hi Komlas, I have been on this site off and on for the last 2 years and have learned a lot from other contributors. Unfortunately unless you are very lucky, the Docs do not have time to tell you a lot of info, at least not in the UK. However I had an ICD implanted in May 2016, and have had no shocks...

Re: Heart and kidney 're Diabetes

Hi Al, thanks a million for replying to my post. In a way u put my mind at rest. Maybe I am getting paranoid after what has happened over the last 2 years. Anyway I will try and stick to a sensible diet. Must control my sweet tooth. I love fruit and nut chocolate! Do you ever eat diabetic choc and s...

Heart and kidney 're Diabetes

Hi all, trying to give a positive story to cheer folks up, but I need a bit of feedback myself. Saw my Surgeon this morning for follow up after kidney removal 3 weeks ago. He said my heart had stood up to the anaesthetic very well. No issues during the operation. I asked him for advice relating to c...

Re: OT: I am the grumpy old woman

Hi all, just some thoughts. I know that you all live under different systems for healthcare than we have here in the UK, and I would not dream of criticising our own NHS (national health service). From what I understand, for instance, in the US your docs discuss with you what procedures they are goi...

Re: OT: I am the grumpy old woman

Hi Crissy I do admire you for your courage, and pray that you will find fresh strength and enjoy your Grand daughter. You have certainly brought me down to earth and made me realise that I must stop thinking about my own ailments, think of others and what they are going through.

Cheers, Poppy.

Re: Poppy...

The surgery only took 40 minutes it usually takes 2 hours, so I am told. The reason being the heart. I heard him (the Surgeon) tell the Aneth...

Pain helping drugs after surgery

Thanks those of you who have posted most useful info, it is good to have this site to receive from people who have actually been there ! As far as medication, - I mean drugs to control the pain is concerned, as far as you know, does a heart condition actually limit what they can give you ? My daught...

Kidney operation and icd

Many thanks to Al and Chrissy for your helpful comments. I can see that you have both had more issues than me. However it is a shock when the Doc tells you what you have. They (the medics) were looking for something else when they saw what they said was a suspicious something in my left kidney. When...

Major operation not related to my heart - can someone please reply if they have had any experience

Hi, I have tried to post before but have not had any responses. After 2 years of trouble free heart problems, to my shock I was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in my left kidney which I was told had not spread. Advised to have the kidney removed. Although this is a common operation, naturally they...

Beta blockers

Hi, has anyone out there been able to stop taking Beta Blockers? I have been on them since my event in May 2016, and I thought I would be on them for the rest of my life, but I have heard of folks coming off them. The thing is, they slow me down so, and last Winter here in the UK, although not too c...

Re: Atrial fibrillation and migraines/auras

Hi Margaret, I have a Boston icd and I have noticed that during the last year i have had more occular migraine than before. They can be a real nuisance although I never connected the two. Now you have me thinking. I wonder is there a connection ? My device has never fired, at least not to my knowled...

Hi Bob i too was so sorry to hear of your health struggles. As a comparative newcomer I have been grateful when you have taken the trouble to reply to my queries, which looking back seem so trivial, compared with the problems which you have, as well as other folks on this site My thoughts and prayer...

Re: Going without an ICD and medications

I am sorry to hear of these problems with ICDs but I think that Matt and his wife who had this horrible experience and the latest contributor are in the minority not that saying that helps them or their loved ones. However I think that on the whole ICDs do save lives. I can appreciate the frustratio...
