I am on the way to feeling better

Post by Ozchrissy » December 14th, 2011, 10:09 pm

I saw the Surgeon, and he was fantastic. He took me very seriously and was very thorough. I think he is happy he has my case, he is already organizing case conferences in his head. He gave me the option of going into hospital straight away to have more intensive tests or to come back after Christmas and the New Year is over. He is flying out of Australia tonight on vacation, and will be back on the 2nd Jan. I opted to wait till the new year, and I am booked into Hospital on the 3rd Jan, at St Vincent's Private Hospital in Melbourne.

He is consulting with other cardiologists, a pulmonary specialist, a heart failure specialist (the best in Australia in his words), in fact he rang him during the appointment to make sure he would be available. I will be in Hospital until it is all over, so I do expect a long stay, but am sooooo relieved that he is taking me seriously.

When I realized that I wasn't just being fobbed off I burst into tears. Lauren was with me and she was close to tears too. The treatment by this doctor was excellent. I have been fobbed off by my local cardiologists for 3 months, I go and see this special surgeon in Melbourne and HE is consulting immediately with other specialists. I do feel like I am in good hands. It is not an emergency, and I will be fine until Jan, well no different than I am now, so will be able to start 2012 off in good hands and hopefully have a wonderful year with an improvement in my health.

So, it's time to relax and enjoy the holidays with your daughter and friends! So, let go of the stress and do some things you enjoy. Experiment with your juicer. Rent a favorite old movie. Visit someone who can't get out anymore. Know that you're loved by people you've never met!

Dear Chrissy, Sorry to hear about your trials but I am so glad to hear you sounding so much more confident and at ease about what is to come. Amazing how being treated with respect can so change ones outlook. The other doctors should be ashamed to have given you such a hard time. Relax and enjoy the holidays. I'll be thinking of you! Thanks everyone, and yes it is a new beginning for me and a new year. I am very confident that I can only improve now.

Also, I was beginning to think that I was just a whinger and I am sure some people thought I was a hypochondriac, but his reaction to me put all those out of my mind. It is something that is wrong and has to be fixed.

The new year, with new docs and a new device, nothing can bring me down anymore.

Now I am looking forward to a wonderful Christmas with my family and friends.

that is just great news Chrissy, and I would imagine your flying in cloud nine right about now,I too felt the same way when i first was having chest plms, thinking that the doctors thought i was just crazy, pulling a chest muscle or something.for me to be at 30 % ef rate for more than a year, feeling so weak, then when i complain to be feeling more weak,a battery of test later to find out that my ef rate has just jumped to 47.5 % .its amazing. I understand how you feel of being taken seriously.and now new attention will be taken to your needs, and a great outlook for the new year is coming your way, what a perfect time to celebrate life at christmas time and to be with your family,we all are wishing you the best,God Bless.

Thanks Gerry, I am so relieved. I suppose I should expect this, it took them over 6 months to diagnose my cardiomyopathy 12 years ago, and I had an ef of 18. I was on all types of asthma drugs, antibiotics, even told I was hyperventilating, but I was in pulmonary edema, severe mitral regurgitation and extremely sick. My heart was twice its size.

This experience has been very similar, to know you have a growth in your heart attached to your right ventricular lead and nothing is being done about it, is very frightening. Thanks to my own determination, my general practitioner, and support from family and friends I was able to get to this stage. From all I have heard and read about my condition is very scary, can be fatal if left untreated. Finally I am getting satisfaction.

The support of my friends on here has been very helpful. This is really the only place that I can speak to people who know what I am going through. I know I have taken up a lot of space in the past few weeks Donnahi, but it has been necessary for me to do this, to keep my sanity and also give me the support and strength to do what I have done. I also like to help others when I can, and I can assure everyone that now I am where I want to be, I will be much more considerate of others.

Chrissy, getting someone to take you seriously is half the battle and thankfully this has happened for you. It's exciting in a weird kind of way that you know something is going to be done to improve your health. You must be so relieved!

Yes, it is now time to enjoy Christmas. For some reason today I decided to ring the pathology lab to find out how my bloods were progressing. I was told by the receptionist who checked my computer file that the tests has been finalized after 5 DAYS. Now these tests were to be done for 14 days, to check for fungal and other infections that don't show up in 5 days. To say I was upset is an understatement. I rang back once my brain had processed this information and actually spoke to the micobiologist. She was mortified to think that this had been done. So apologetic, she even came down when I went in to repeat the tests to apologise personally and collected the samples personally and took them to the lab herself to start the process. She rang the infections disease doc and I have to do the 4 days of testing again.

Wow, this is a pain in the butt, BUT, my bloods will be protected by this woman for the next 14 days and extra care will be taken with them. They will be finished by the time I have to go to Hospital, on the 3rd, but just. The last one will be ready on the day before. She was just so apologetic and concerned that I know that she will look after my little bottles like they are her own kids. whewsmile

So now, although I do have to go and give blood for another 3 days, tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, that is all I have to do. My mind will become free of all this stuff, and I am now going to forget all about this until the 3rd January.

Good for you for being "on top of things" Chrissy!! It's not right that you have to be, but it just shows again that you really must always question and be informed yourself!!

I wish you and Lauren a most wonderful Holiday Season!!
